2012 Season Update

Doc and his FJ1100 Racer in retirement

After six years racing a FJ it has come to the time to hang up my helmet. The main reason is the expense. When you start adding track day cost, tyres, petrol for bike, diesel for van…. Well, let’s say its best not to add it up.

Unless I find someone willing to Sponsor me and my 27 year old FJ1100 then I will just arrange a few flying visit to the NR races at my favourite circuit like Oulton Park and Anglesey.

If I do manage to get some money I fancy doing an one off ride in the HotTrax Endurance event. One bike, two riders but this means pulling Liam (Corky) out of retirement. I'm not arranging to respray my fairing this winter as I’m sure he will add a few scratches to it by the end of the event.

To sum up the six years I started off in 2006 with a slightly modified FJ1100 racing in the Forgotten Era with pre 1990 motorcycles. After 3 years I worked my way up to win the championship in 2008, and then retained it in 2009.

In 2010 and 2011 I entered a high class, the Pre-Injection class designed for pre 2001 motorcycles. Over this time I gained to 2nd places in the championship. Within these races I would be racing amongst modern Sports bikes like the big bang R1 and ZX10R. Duing these races I was lucky enough to finish in front of most of them, on cicuits like Brands Hatch and Anglesey.

When you consider it’s a 27 year old tourer I think I can be proud of my achievements and would like to thanks all the club members for their support and special thanks goes out to Kerry and Mark, who have tirelessly attended the meets helping with the pit work and photography.

The best times was in 2009 when we had 6 FJ’s on the grid, it was an awesome sight and I can’t remember a race when we actually all finished, so much was the commitment to race these big touring Yamaha’s against sports bikes that most ended in the gravel trap, RESPECT!
